“Kalaignar Scheme unique”

TIRUCHI: Kalaignar Health Insurance Scheme is unique in all aspects and Tamil Nadu is the only State to implement such a welfare scheme which has been acclaimed in various quarters, said Forest Minister N. Selvaraj.

Speaking at a function to distribute financial assistance to pregnant women under the Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme and conduct ‘valaikappu' ceremony to pregnant women and inaugurate the varumun kappom medical camps at Tiruvellarai and Kamatchipatti panchayats on Monday, Mr. Selvaraj said the health insurance scheme was a great boon to the people belonging to the weaker sections.

The Chief Minister has fulfilled all the promises made to the people during the polls and the various welfare schemes implemented by the government have benefitted a large number of people. The varumun kappom scheme enabled the rural people to get specialised treatment even for chronic ailments, he added. He also explained the various welfare schemes being implemented by the State Government and called upon the people to extend their support to it.

Seetha Ilangovan, Chairperson of Manachanallur union, and others spoke on the occasion.

The Minister presented cheques to the tune of Rs. 12.90 lakhs to 215 beneficiaries under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity scheme. Valaikappu was conducted for 200 pregnant women.
