“Fix cane price at Rs.2,000 per tonne”

CHENNAI: The Communist Party of India has urged the Tamil Nadu government to fix the procurement price of sugar cane at Rs.2,000 per tonne.

The State executive committee of the Communist Party of India meeting here on Thursday said the cultivation cost of sugar cane had increased substantially due to increase in prices of fertilizer and other inputs. To meet the cost, the government should fix the price at Rs.2,000 per tonne.

By other resolutions, the party urged the Central government to reduce the price of petrol and diesel as the international price of crude had come down from $146 to $60 a barrel.

The committee criticised the police for not taking any steps to prevent the students’ clash in the Dr.Ambedkar Government Law College in Chennai. It urged the State government to take action against the college administration for allowing the situation to deteriorate.

Party general secretary A.B. Bardhan and assistant secretary Sudhakar Reddy participated in the meeting, which was presided over by A.M. Gopu, executive committee member.
