“Conduct weekly health camps in anganvadis”

TIRUNELVELI: Weekly health camps should be conducted in all anganvadis so that the children would be in good shape, Commissioner for Integrated Child Development Scheme G. Ramamurthy has said.

Addressing a review meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Ramamurthy said the anganvadi workers, who should teach the children education and discipline, should also conduct weekly health camps without fail so that the children’s health could be ensured. If any children were afflicted with any disease, they should be taken to the nearby government hospital immediately.

“Apart from saving the affected child, the early detection of the disease will also protect other children from being afflicted,” Mr. Ramamurthy noted.

He told the anganvadi workers to boil the potato and the chickpea separately and ensure that each egg being given to the children should be of 40 grams.

Collector R. Palaniyandi said that the 2,398 anganvadis in the district were taking care of 1,06,242 children and all children were vaccinated for dreaded diseases.

“While 1,746 anganvadis are functioning from government buildings, 525 others are in rented buildings. The remaining 127 are in the sponsored buildings,” he said.

District Project Officer of ICDS A. Devikumari, District Public Relations Officer U. Ravindran and others participated in the meeting.
