“Cartridges might have been dumped by steel company”

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Empty rust cartridges, seized by the police from a well in the SIPCOT industrial estate at Gummidipoondi near here on Saturday, might have been dumped by a steel company located on the estate, according to a release issued on Tuesday by the Police Department.

There are 14 such companies in the estate which import iron scrap and produc steel rods. The empty cartridges might have come in the scrap parcel which the company could not use.

The company owner and manager have been arrested, the release said.

As the cartridges were very old and not fit for use, there was no basis to link their recovery to extremists, the release added.
