Lakhera to flag off ocean sailing expedition tomorrow

PONDICHERRY, JULY 24. The Lt Governor, M.M. Lakhera, will flag off the 12-day long ocean sailing expedition by the naval wing volunteers of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) from Pondicherry to Kodiakkarai under the `Sagar Sangam` banner at the old port here on Monday.

The team comprises 36 senior division and 10 senior wing cadets of l (P) Naval unit NCC Pondicherry and 5 (TN) Naval Unit Cuddalore.

They would carry out the expedition using two whaler boats of 27 feet each and cover 436 kms up and down. The expedition is being held under the overall supervision of the Deputy Director General of NCC Commodore, P.P Singh (Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands). A release from the Group Commander of NCC Col N. Venugopal who is the overall coordinator of the expedition said that the cadets were selected from among the colleges located in the Pondicherry, Karaikal and Mahe regions of Union Territory of Pondicherry besides Porayar, Cuddalore and Andaman and Nicobar islands.
