Lakhera lauds self-confidence of the physically challenged

PONDICHERRY, AUG. 21. Lt. Governor M.M. Lakhera has said that the zeal, will power and self-confidence always enabled the physically challenged persons to achieve great heights in their endeavours. He was felicitating a batch of physically challenged persons who had produced excellent paintings and presented live demonstration of their skills at a function organised by Mukti, a voluntary organisation, at Gandhi Thidal here today. He also praised Mukti for encouraging the physically challenged.

While it was a good service to provide artificial limbs and other facilities to the challenged persons, it was also important that the `special people' should be given the needed confidence. The endeavour of Mukti to tap the innate talents and dexterity of the physically challenged persons deserves to be lauded, he said.

The chairperson of Mukti, Nirmal Mirza, and its Director, Meena Dadha, also spoke referring to the extent of care and facilities the organisation had been providing to the physically challenged.

The Chennai-based Mukti, which was started 18 years ago, opened its unit in Kottakuppam near Pondicherry a year ago.

The Lt. Governor distributed gifts to the artists who demonstrated their skills by drawing paintings with the help of foot or mouth or head.

Ajay Virmani, a member of the executive committee of Mukti, proposed a vote of thanks.
