6,000 houses sanctioned in Pulivendula

KADAPA: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday promised diversion of Krishna water to the Pulivendula Branch Canal for augmenting irrigation facilities in his constituency.

He laid the foundation-stone for the "gali gopuram'' of Sri Padmavathi Sametha Venkata Ramana Swamy temple at Pulivendula. Addressing people from atop a bus near the temple, Dr. Reddy assured efforts to bring Krishna water to the Galeru Nagari project and pump water from there to Pulivendula Branch Canal. Assuring housing to all the homeless poor, he said 6,000 pucca houses were sanctioned to the Pulivendula segment.

Earlier, speaking at Loyola Polytechnic at Pulivendula, he said his Government would strive to ensure economic betterment of women. `Indira rule' would usher in economic prosperity and all-round development of women, he asserted.

Low-interest loans

Referring to loans to DWCRA women at 25 paise interest, he said disbursement of loans of Rs. 12 crores to DWCRA members of the segment was targeted, as against Rs. 7 crores last year.

The Chief Minister distributed assets worth Rs. 16.93 crores among farmers, self-help groups and Rajiv Yuva Shakti beneficiaries under Indira Kranthi Patham, at Loyola Polytechnic. The bank-wise disbursement was Rs. 13.01 crores by Rayalaseema Grameena Bank, Rs. 2.54 crores by SBI and Rs. 1.38 crores by Syndicate Bank. He unveiled a life-size bronze statue of his late father, Y.S. Raja Reddy, at Raja Reddy Park on the polytechnic premises.

Busy schedule

He laid the foundation-stone for an Idgah, laid stone for Rs. 1.55-crore beautification of Indira Vanam park, municipal office building costing Rs. 8 lakhs, hockey academy for boys and girls and Rs. 8-crore underground drainage system. He also laid the foundation-stone for a ring road. He proceeded to his ancestral house in Pulivendula and along with his family members, attended a relative's marriage reception.

Cuddapah MP, Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, MLAs, C. Adinarayana Reddy and N. Varadarajulu Reddy, Collector, G. Asok Kumar, and other officials took part.
