Knit Show 2005 begins in Tirupur

TIRUPUR: The fifth edition of knitwear fashion accessories show, Knit Show 2005, organised by City Leaves, was inaugurated here on Hotel Velan Fair Grounds on Thursday.

The South India Hosiery Manufacturers' Association president Mohan P. Kandasamy, who inaugurated the fair, emphasised that it was a must-see for exporters to improve the quality and value of their product.

Around 400 participants from Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, New Delhi, Mumbai and Tirupur have displayed variety of fabrics, yarns and sequin materials, different type of elastics, zips, buttons and rubber patches.

The Dyers' Association of Tirupur president N. Kandasamy said the accessories would play a crucial role in adding value to the garment. With the quota-free market providing plenty of opportunities to the exporters, they should manufacture value-added garments to earn more profit and foreign exchange, he said.

Tirupur Exporters Association vice-president Prem S. Duraisamy, Tirupur Export Cloth Manufacturers Association president K.P. Govindasamy and advocate Vidiyal Sekar offered felicitation.

Exhibition organiser H. Krishna said that the response from the industry was `excellent' and on the first day the expo registered more than 14,000 visitors. All the leading suppliers of knit garment accessories had participated.

Besides fabrics, light machinery, testing equipment and packing materials have been displayed.
