Kancheepuram municipality to build `yathri nivas'

Kancheepuram Dec. 4 . A `Yathri Nivas' (tourist home) will be constructed here at a cost of Rs. 38 lakhs by the Kancheepuram municipality with financial assistance from the Union Tourism department.

Similarly, a concrete road with lighting facility for 1.5 km distance leading to the Kailasanathar temple (maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India) here will be laid at a total cost of Rs. 87 lakhs with a Rs. 40-lakh assistance from the Centre. The remaining will be provided by the State Government.

V. Somasundaram, Handlooms and Textiles Minister, laid the foundation stone for the two projects today.

The Minister also inaugurated an integrated sanitary complex for women and a sports ground at Thenambakkam panchayat here constructed with the MLA constituency development fund.

K. Rajaraman, Collector, who presided, said the district administration was concentrating on forming more women self-help groups.
