Joy boat ride resumes

CUDDALORE: The joy boat ride at Silver Beach has resumed from last Sunday, over five months after the December 26 tsunami. The Collector, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, flagged off two boats, in the presence of the Municipal Chairman, A.G. Rajendran, and the Vice-Chairman, G. Kumar, to mark the resumption of the services.

The Collector said that earlier four boats were operated from the beach for the benefit of tourists. But, all the boats were damaged in the tsunami, and these were now being repaired at a cost of Rs. 4.50 lakhs.

The waterway too was heavily silted and an intensive dredging operation was carried out. Soon, the four boats would also be inducted. Mr. Bedi said Rs. 4 lakhs had been earmarked for setting up play equipment on the beach.
