Job seekers chased away by police

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 15. Scores of job seekers, including women, who assembled at the Nandavanam AR camp seeking appointment on daily wages were chased away by the police after some of them got agitated when nobody turned up to recruit them even after many hours.

Many of those who turned up at the police camp were those who had registered their names at the district collectorate on Thursday, for recruitment on a daily wage basis. Some of them had reportedly come to the Camp very early this morning. Initially the police had asked those assembled to disperse, saying that there has been no intimation of a recruitment drive today. A section of the persons gathered is said to have become agitated when recruitment did not commence even after 8.30 a.m.

Many of those who came to the police camp later held a march to the collectorate and the secretariat. They were taken away in a police van and later released.
