JIPMER director chosen for award

Pondicherry Oct. 3. The Director of JIPMER, R. Sambasiva Rao, has been selected for the Brahmiah Sastri Memorial Award for his outstanding contribution to medical education and research. He will be presented the award on the occasion of inauguration of the 23rd annual conference of Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists on October 5 in the institute.

The organising secretary, Gopal Krushna Pal, said here today that a first year Post-Graduate student, Nivedita Nanda, would be presented the Professor N. Padmanabhan Memorial award for the best research work in physiology, while E. Babu the final year MBBS student would be given the Leela Krishnamurthy award for the best research work carried out by an Undergraduate medical student of the institute. The conference would be inaugurated by the Health Minister, E. Valsaraj, with the Madras University Vice-Chancellor, S. Ignacimuthu, presenting the `M K Nambiar Memorial oration'. Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology, AIIMS, New Delhi, Ramesh L.Bijlani, will spoke on `the role of biomedical scientists in nation building'.
