Jewels stolen in suburban house

CHENNAI: Unidentified miscreants barged into a house in the suburban Madhavaram on Sunday night and decamped with jewellery weighing 65 sovereigns and a mobile phone.

Police said Rajesh Kanna and his family members had locked their home in Thanikachalam Nagar and been to the nearby church to offer prayers on the eve of the Christmas celebration. On return, they found the grills removed and found the valuables missing.

The Madhavaram police have registered a case and are investigating.

Two men held

The police arrested two persons, who had allegedly stolen video games from a showroom in Chintadripet.

A complaint was filed by George of Chintadripet Narasingapuram Street that he had stocked video games in boxes in his shop on Saturday and closed the shop. The next day, he found four boxes missing. Investigations revealed that two persons Sadiq Ali (21) of Vyasarpadi, who was employed in the shop, and his associate Palani (19) of S M Nagar had allegedly stolen the goods.

The police recovered them from the house of Palani. After registering a case of robbery, the duo was produced before Egmore XIV metropolitan magistrate court, which remanded them to judicial custody, a note said.
