TAMIL NADU

`Jayalalithaa should talk to Krishna also'

Thanjavur Dec. 4. The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, should talk to her Karnataka counterpart and get Cauvery water immediately for samba cultivation in delta districts, G.K. Vasan, president, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, told presspersons here today.

The level in the Mettur dam was less than 50 feet (full level 120 feet). The water would be sufficient only for two more wettings.

"Ms. Jayalalithaa, who spoke to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for getting water to Chennai, should show the same interest in the Cauvery issue also and talk to her Karnataka counterpart, S.M. Krishna." The Government should keep its promise of energising 7,000 agriculture pumpsets in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts. Sub-stations and transformers should be installed.

Mr. Vasan, who recently took over as TNCC chief, said he had toured eight districts and found that cadres were enthusiastic. "By sheer hard work and unity, we may be able to revive Kamaraj rule in Tamil Nadu."

Earlier, he was given a rousing reception by partymen of Thanjavur district.

He hoisted the party flag. Responding to the felicitations, Mr. Vasan said the AIADMK, which came to power with the support of his father, the late G.K. Moopanar, and the Left parties, failed on all fronts. It had not kept its poll promises.
