IOB extension counter upgraded

PONDICHERRY, JAN. 19. The extension counter of the Indian Overseas Bank which was opened as a cash collection counter in the Mairie (Municipal Office) premises on the Beach Road in 1984 was recently upgraded into a fullfledged branch.

The Senior Regional Manager, R. Santhanam, said the bank had two extension counters on the premises of the Swadeshi Cotton Mills and on the premises of the Pondicherry West Industries Association at Tirubuvanai.

The upgraded branch on the Municipal campus has deposits more than Rs. 12 crores. The Joint Secretary (Revenue), Uddipta Ray, inaugurated the branch.

The Executive Director, R. Natarajan, presided over the function and the General Manager, R. Krishnan, among others were present.

The branch is fully computerised and the bank plans to instal an automatic teller machine and introduce `any branch banking facility` shortly.

It is the second branch of the bank in Pondicherry while the first has been functioning on J.N. Street in the heart of the town.
