I am not against merger: Thangabalu

CHENNAI May 29. The former TNCC president, K.V. Thangabalu, has denied that he is against the merger of the TMC with the Congress. Reacting to the TNCC president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan's criticism that he was working against the merger, Mr. Thangabalu told newsmen here today that he made the first move towards the union when he was president of the State unit. A resolution was adopted by the then executive committee appealing to the TMC to merge with the parent body. Subsequently, the TMC, at an executive committee meeting in Thanjavur, decided to work in coordination with the Congress.

He said Mr. Elangovan had made a baseless allegation against him without verifying facts. In a statement on Tuesday, Mr. Elangovan criticised Mr. Thangabalu for attempting to scuttle the merger.
