Honesty reigns supreme

Pondicherry Aug. 10. He is unemployed. His child is undergoing treatment in the general hospital for some ailment. These difficult and trying situations took a backseat and honesty reigned supreme for R. Kaliaperumal.

Kaliaperumal, who hails from Shanmugapuram in Thattanchavady Assembly constituency, was returning home on Saturday after visiting his child at the hospital. He came across a handbag lying on the road near the Lal Bahadhur Sastri Gingee Salai junction.

He handed over the bag, which contained over Rs. 11,000 in cash, to the Oreleanpet police station.

The Superintendent of Police (north) V.J. Chandran, told newsmen here today that with the help of a visiting card, the person who missed the bag was traced.

The Superintendent of Police praised Kaliaperumal's honesty and although the SP came forward to felicitate the unemployed youth with a cash award the latter declined to accept it.
