High-powered panel to monitor implementation of schemes

Pondicherry May 22. An eight-member high-powered committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy has been constituted by the Administration to monitor implementation of the various new programmes announced in the recent budget for the fiscal 2003-2004 for the Union Territory.

An informed source said that the committee has been formed through the Planning and Research Department in which the Social Welfare, Health, Tourism and Education, the Local Administration and Agriculture Ministers, the Chief Secretary to the Administration and the Development Commissioner are the other members. The Development Commissioner has been designed as member Secretary of the committee.

The Committee would meet on the second Wednesday every month. The tenure of the Committee is two years and the chairman has powers to co-opt any official or non-official person as member of the committee.
