Heavy rain lashed various parts of the district for the third day on Friday.

Till Friday morning, a total of 400 mm rainfall was recorded across the district, with Avalanche and Upper Bhavani receiving the highest amounts of rainfall at more than 70 mm. Officials said that over the last three days, more than 1,800 mm rain was recorded across the district. Many of the dams in the district are full to the brim. Houses in low-lying areas were inundated.

Rain continued in Sigur plateau, and the Rivers Sigurhalla and Moyar are in spate.

Meanwhile, an overloaded lorry that was proceeding to Sathyamangalam fell on its side at the 12th hairpin bend on Coonoor - Mettupalayam Road on Friday morning. Both the driver and the cleaner of the lorry escaped unhurt. However, police and staff from the National Highways Authority of India had a difficult task in removing the vehicle and clearing the traffic that was held up for almost two hours.

Police enforced road diversions, forcing motorists from Mettupalayam proceeding towards Coonoor and Udhagamandalam to take Kotagiri Road to reach their destinations. Motorists from Coonoor proceeding to Mettupalayam were also rerouted via Kotagiri Road.
