Hearing on bail pleas of accused posted to December 6

KANCHEEPURAM, NOV. 29. Bail applications moved by eight persons arrested in connection with the murder of the Varadarajaperumal temple manager, Sankararaman, in the Kancheepuram District Sessions Court at Chengalpattu, have been posted to December 6.

Enquiries revealed that Kathiravan, one of the prime accused in the murder case, in which the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Jayendra Saraswathi, was arrested, moved a bail application in the sessions court last week.

Besides Kathiravan, `Dil' Pandian, Arumugam and Sathish, who were booked under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code for surrendering before XV Metropolitan Magistrate Court, George Town in Chennai, in a bid to divert the investigation directed against the real culprits, and Palani, `Kuruvi' Ravi, Sekar and Sundaram, who were arrested under Sections 201 and 120(B) of IPC for `enacting' the proxy surrender drama, have moved bail applications.

The District and Sessions Judge, Akbar Ali, posted the hearing of all these applications to December 6 following a plea from counsel of both the petitioners and respondents, said the public prosecutor, K. Arumugam.

Mutt decision

Meanwhile, the manager of the Kanchi Sankara Mutt, Sundaresa Iyer, said the Mutt decided to abide by the Madras High Court observation today on the bail petition of the Acharya that both parties refrain from speaking to the media.
