Guru's teachings very relevant now: CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 30. The 69th Sivagiri pilgrimage organised by the Sree Narayana Dharma Sanghom got off to colourful start at the Sivagiri Madhom at Varkala near here today.

Inaugurating the pilgrimage meeting, the Chief Minister, Mr. A.K. Antony, said Sree Narayana Guru's teachings were aimed at synthesising the spiritual and material aspects of daily life.

The Guru's famous dictum that the ultimate purpose of all religions is the improvement of man, had great significance now when people were fighting each other in the name of religion, he said.

Mr. Antony expressed regrets for the unfortunate incidents following the police action in the Sivagiri Madhom during his earlier term as Chief Minister.

The Electricity Minister, Mr. Kadavoor Sivadasan, chaired the function. A large number of pilgrims from all over the State are attending the three-day-long festivities. Religious and cultural meetings, seminars, discussions and literary sessions are being organised in this connection.
