Group houses to be renovated

ERODE: A total of 3,750 group houses built 20 years ago in the district would be renovated at a cost of Rs. 3.85 crores, said the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, at the District Parliamentary Committee meeting held on Friday.

He said the amount would be spent from the MLA Constituency Development Fund. The Collector discussed the development works being carried out in the district. He said that in rural areas, more toilet facilities would be provided under the Total Sanitation Programme.

Construction of toilets

Already construction of toilets had begun in the rural areas and before year-end, 73,486 toilets would be built for households. Under the Sampoorna Gramin Yojana, Rs. 8.25 crores had been granted for the district.

Under the MP Constituency Development Fund, 185 works at a total cost of Rs. 8.15 crores had been undertaken in the district.

He said under Sampoorna Gramin Swarajgar Yojana, it was decided to grant a revolving fund of Rs. 59.90 lakhs to 599 SHGs. MLAs K.S. Thennarasu, K.C. Karupannan, S.S. Ramanidharan, K.S. Palanisamy and P. Chidambaram and others spoke.
