Govt. weakening probe into Marad incident: BJP

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM MAY 22. The BJP national council member, P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, alleged on Thursday that the Government was weakening the investigation into the Marad massacre to appease the Muslim League.

In a statement here, the BJP leader said only an investigation by the CBI would help in bringing out the conspiracy and terrorist links behind the incident.

Mr. Pillai noted that the attack had been launched from the Juma Masjid at Marad that belonged to the Sunnis, who lead the Muslim League.

Those arrested included a district leader of the League. Hence, the League was under a cloud of suspicion, he said.

The Kerala Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, who had adopted a strong stand at first, was trying to appease the League after the Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, came to the fore to help the League, he said.
