The government employees associated with Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association who went on an indefinite strike in the State on Tuesday have called it off, said the association’s general secretary, M. Anbarasu, on Wednesday.
The decision to call off the strike followed an assurance given by State government in a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday that their six demands would be considered, Mr. Anbarasu said.
Postponed till July
“The Finance Minister, School Education Minister and the Finance Secretary invited us for a meeting and assured that our concerns will be considered and sought time for considering our requests. So, we have postponed our strike till July. If government didn't act as per its promise, we will be forced to strike again," Mr. Anbarasu said.
It may be recalled that business in several State government offices across the State was disrupted since Tuesday, after over four lakh employees associated with the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA) launched an indefinite strike.
Their primary demand was for the rollback of the new pension scheme.
