Girl strangled to death in pastor's flat

BANGALORE NOV. 7. An 18-year-old girl was strangled to death by a youth at the apartment of her relative in Viveknagar police station limits on Thursday morning. According to police, the girl Jennifer had been strangled with her "duppata'' in the flat of Arul Kumar, a pastor, in Sai Teja Apartments, Viveknagar. Jennifer, a native of Kestur village in Chamarajanagar District, was a relative of Fr. Kumar's wife, and was staying with them for the past two years, looking after their two children.

At 10.15 a.m., when Jennifer was alone, a 20-year-old youth came to the apartments asking for Fr. Kumar. The watchmen took the youth's signature in the logbook, and accompanied him to the pastor's flat on the ground floor. Jennifer opened the door, and called the youth inside. Thirty minutes later, he went away. At around 11 a.m., a maid came to work and rang the calling bell. When there was no response, she pushed open the door and entered the flat. She saw Jennifer's body on the bed, and informed the owner of the apartment, Lambert.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Gopal B. Hosur, said that it was not a murder for gain, as nothing had been stolen from the flat.
