Funds sought for roads, bridges

PERAMBLUR: The Highways Department has sent a proposal to the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) seeking a sum of Rs. 17.55 crore for the construction of 10 bridges and 29 culverts.

In a press release here on Tuesday, the Collector, Anil Meshram, said that the works would be executed through the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund of the NABARD and the Highways Department would execute the work.

The works aimed at ensuring normal traffic during the monsoon and re-constructing the old and weak culverts.

He said that a sum of Rs. 13 crore would be disbursed to 65 villages for the implementation of `All village Anna Marumalarchi Programme.' Each village would be sanctioned Rs. 20 lakh.

On the development of rural roads, steps had been taken to relay the roads at an outlay of Rs. 7 crore under the Prime Minister's Rural Road Development Scheme and the NABARD-funded programme.

In all, 27 road works would be executed.

In the second phase of distribution of land to the landless, an extent of 1,350 acres would be given to eligible persons on December 17. The district administration had identified the site, he said.
