Funds for improvement of schools

TIRUNELVELI, AUG. 1. The Minister for Industries, Nainar Nagendran, today held discussions with Corporation officials, representatives of Parent-Teacher Association on improving the conditions of the corporation schools, particularly, ensuring fire-proof buildings in all 33 schools.

The Minister said precautionary measures should be taken in the schools and strict vigil be kept during working hours so that fire mishaps could be easily be averted, if any.

The Government allocated Rs.89 lakhs for improvement of the Corporation schools in Tirunelveli and 75 per cent of this work had already been completed.

"The Corporation has also received Rs. 3 crores for the construction of new spacious buildings and toilets in the schools and the construction would be completed before the commencement of next academic year. The classrooms in the first floor should be provided with hassle-free stairs," Mr. Nagendran said.

The Mayor, A. Jayarani, the Commissioner, D. Chandrasekar, and other officials participated in the discussion.
