Fresh TNPSC exams for Tiruchi medical college students?

CHENNAI OCT. 22 . Though Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission examinations were held on October 11, fresh tests can be arranged for MBBS graduates of the KAP Viswanatham Medical College, Tiruchi, if the Government issues a directive, a senior TNPSC official said today.

"If the Government instructs us to, we can arrange for supplementary examinations as there are only a few students. They can still be given a chance," the official said. If they missed the tests this year, they might have to wait for a couple of years more for another government recruitment.

The official denied that the commission had received instructions from the Government asking it to allow the Tiruchi college students to apply for the TNPSC examinations.

According to officials of the Directorate of Medical Education, the Government last week instructed the TNPSC, asking it to allow these students to apply for its examinations. It was stated the Tiruchi college would soon get permanent recognition and that their applications might be considered.

However, the examinations were held on October 11, before the Government made its move.

The first batch of the Tiruch medical college graduated this year, and many of these students had applied to the TNPSC for direct recruitment as Assistant Surgeon (General/Specialties) in the Tamil Nadu Medical Service, 2003. Their applications were rejected as they were not registered medical practitioners, which they cannot be unless the college has permanent recognition from the Medical Council of India.
