Nagercoil: The Rotary International has allotted one million US Dollars for tsunami rehabilitation in India and the amount is funded by Rotary Foundation, according to the past Rotary International Director, P.C. Thomas.

Laying the foundation stone for construction of 43 houses to tsunami-affected fishermen at Mulloorthurai near Thengapattinam recently, he said that the Rotary Clubs of Kanyakumari district, various Rotary Clubs in the Rotary district and Rotary Club of Delhi Midtown came forward to extend a helping hand to tsunami victims by distributing relief materials worth Rs.75 lakh in the coastal areas of the district.

The State Government and Kottar Catholic Diocese acquired the land for the construction of houses.

The land had already been handed over to Rotary International for building the 43 houses.

The area of the each house would be 330 square feet.

Each house would be self-contained with basic requirements such as power supply, water supply etc, Mr. Thomas said.
