`Fly ash can be used in construction work'

CUDDALORE, JULY 24. Fly ash being obtained after burning the lignite can be used in construction works such as compound walls. A workshop on the utilities of fly ash held under the aegis of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation here expressed the view that the fly ash could be used in the construction of compound walls and other structures that did not bear too much of burden. The bunding of the canal could also be done by using the briquettes made of fly ash.

The fly ash could also be used as a binding material for laying of roads in industrial estates and mining areas. A right mixture of cement and fly ash was also found to be suitable in the construction of buildings.

The speakers at the workshop noted that the NLC was replacing the wooden support of windows and doorways with the concrete beams made of fly ash, and by this experiment, crores of rupees worth of wood was saved. For this, the NLC had bagged Central award too, it was said.

In coordination with the Agriculture Department, the NLC had evolved a technique to convert fly ash as fertilizer, and recently it had succeeded in laying road by using fly ash.
