Flood alert sounded

ERODE: The Lower Bhavani reservoir at Bhavanisagar is fast filling up and expected to overflow.

Due to heavy rain in the catchment, the flow in Bhavani and Moyar rivers has increased. The reservoir received more than 10,000 cusecs on Sunday. On Monday morning, the inflow into the reservoir was 7,525 cusecs. The level touched 104.26 feet as against the full reservoir level (FRL) of 105 feet. At present, the storage is 32 tmc feet of water against 32.5 tmc feet.

Officials said that at present, 3,000 cusecs was discharged into the Bhavani river and 2,000 cusecs into the LBP canal. If the dam started overflowing, they would discharge more than 15,000 cusecs.

People evacuated

Already, flood warning has been given in Mudukkanthurai, Kottuveerampalayam, Sathyamangalam and other areas. Those living on either side of the river were already evacuated to safer places.

Flood alert has been given to those residing on the banks of Amaravathy river in Dharapuram, Vellakoil and Uthiyur. Inflow into Amaravathy reservoir had gone up and water discharge into the river was likely.
