First supplementary estimates presented

For current financial year, it amounts to Rs.1,157.95 crore.

CHENNAI: Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan on Wednesday presented the first supplementary estimates for the current financial year amounting to Rs.1,157.95 crore in the Assembly.

The Minister informed the House that the estimates were being presented to get its approval for meeting new commitments made by the Government for the benefit of people after the presentation of the annual Budget in July this year. He was confident that the additional expenditure would be covered by higher growth rate in State tax revenue and better revenue expenditure management.

Of the Rs.1,157.95 crore, Rs.200 crore will be given to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation as loan for paddy procurement from farmers, Rs.60 crore for providing free LPG connections and gas stoves to poor families and Rs.12.36 crore for disbursement of relief to 1.02 lakh fisherwomen families during lean months.

A sum of Rs.89.02 crore will be allotted for giving financial assistance to cooperative and public sector sugar mills for payment of enhanced State Advisory Price for sugarcane, Rs.10 crore for financial assistance to poor girls under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage assistance scheme and Rs.30 crore as compensation to local bodies on account of exemption from entertainment tax for Tamil films named in Tamil.

Provision for reimbursement of cost of student bus passes to State transport undertakings, share capital assistance to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and discretionary grants to district collectors has also been made in the estimates.
