First aid camp for mine workers

CUDDALORE, AUG. 21. A two-day "First aid camp" was organised for the benefit of employees of mining, cement and granite companies located in Tamil Nadu and Kerala on the Neyveli Lignite Corporation campus near here on August 19 and 20.

The camp was jointly organised by the NLC, the Tamil Nadu and Kerala Mines Safety Association (TN & KMSA), and St.John Ambulance Association. A special syllabus was prepared by a team of medical professionals to impart training to as many as 105 employees from 26 concerns.

The Director General of Mines Safety, Ravindra Sharma, if first aid was promptly given, many lives could be saved, and hence, the training programme acquired great significance.

The Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NLC, S.Jayaraman, said that by adhering to safety norms and observing self-discipline industrial accidents could be averted. He pointed out that at the time of road accidents, the people should concentrate primarily on giving medical aid to the victims, instead of besieging the drivers and blaming them.
