Farmers initiated into precision farming

During the two-day training programme on precision farming organized by the horticulture department at the Thiruchitrambalam block development office near here recently, the farmers were taught new techniques to improve crop yields.

The farmers were initiated into the techniques by Deputy Director (Horticulture) K.Rasu and Assistant Director (Horticulture-Vanur) K. Anbalagan.

They stated that the farmers who had followed these modern farm practices in raising vegetables, flowers, banana and tapioca had reaped rich dividends.

The techniques would boost yield and improve quality of the produce. Therefore, the farmers need not depend only on the local markets but could also send their produce to upcountry markets to get good prices.

The farmers were provided an insight into fertilizers and weed management, drip irrigation, better harvesting practices, grading of produce and marketing tips.

They were also taken around farms at Vanur, Vinayakapuram and SEmangalam.
