Eye camps mark Children's Day

TIRUNELVELI : Special medical and eye camps, competitions and launching of new insurance scheme marked the Children's Day celebrations held in the district on Monday.

The Rotary Club of Tirunelveli North organised a massive eye camp at Corporation Higher Secondary School, Meenakshipuram, in which 1008 students were screened by the doctors of Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli.

The Corporation Commissioner, D. Chandrasekaran, inaugurated the camp. The hospital would distribute free spectacles to the students who are suffering from refractive errors.

The International Association of Lion Clubs and Indian Red Cross jointly organised a medical camp exclusively for children at Francis Xavier Engineering College, Vannarpettai, in which leading doctors from Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai participated.

At the function organised at Bell Matriculation Higher Secondary School, the senior divisional manager of Life Insurance Corporation of India, Swaminathan, introduced the new plan `Bima Bachat'. The correspondent of the school, Rajendra Singh, and others participated in the function.

Most of the schools here have allowed their students to attend the classes in `colour dress' on Monday in view of the Children's Day. Most of the schools conducted various competitions for the children.
