EPIC campaign from June 1

Pondicherry May 29 The Department of Elections here has scheduled to issue photo identity cards to all the new and residual voters on the basis of the Electoral Rolls 2002 and the supplementary rolls 2002, through the special campaigns from June 1.

The Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Yasam Lakshminarayana Reddy said in a communication today that the cards would be issued to voters in the whole of the Union Territory from June 1 to July 31. The photo capture campaigns would be held every Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in all the Assembly constituencies at different centres.

The details of the EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Cards) campaign would be published through advertisements in the newspapers.

All new and residual electors whose names appeared in the Electorals Roll and Supplementary Rolls 2002 would be eligible to get the cards free of cost.

The voters having cards with discrepancies in their photographs,names, wrong printing of their sex and other details can also get duplicate identity cards free of cost.

However those who had lost the EPICs would have to pay Rs 25 to get duplicate card at the campaign, the officer said.

The voters who had changed their residences or constituencies need not apply for duplicate cards as the previous cards are valid. But they should ensure that their names are contained in the Electoral Rolls. The officer sought the cooperation of the voters in the efforts to distribute the cards.
