Employee robbed of Rs.50,000

CHENNAI, FEB. 15. Cash totalling Rs. 50,000 was snatched away from a stationery mart employee on NSC Bose Road on Thursday.

Rajesh withdrew Rs. 2 lakhs from a nationalised bank in the afternoon. When he was about to leave, a stranger took away a bundle of notes. The employee raised an alarm, and after a chase, one of the gang members was nabbed.

Interrogation revealed that a gang of four followed Rajesh to the bank and one of them removed the cash and escaped.

The arrested was identified as Abdul Salam of Kolkatta. The police are on the look-out for his associates, Kolin, Abul and Haleem.

Chain snatched

Jewellery, weighing 19 sovereigns, was snatched from a woman of Kodungaiyur on Thursday.

Suseela Devi (35) was returning home around 12-30 p.m. on Kodungaiyur Main Road. An unidentified person, who came in a two-wheeler, brandished a knife, and demanded that she part with her jewellery. After taking the jewellery, he escaped.
