EMACET ranks to be announced with marks

HYDERABAD MAY 9. Ranks in the Engineering, Agriculture, Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) will be announced along with the student's rank, hall ticket number and the marks obtained, according to a decision of the EAMCET Committee that met here today.

The committee received a number of representations pleading that only marks obtained by candidates should be announced without ranks to prevent private coaching institutions from commercialising the information. However, during counselling for admissions, the seats are linked to the rank obtained by the student and hence there was a demand for announcing the rank as well.

The EAMCET committee decided that ranks should be announced along with the marks obtained, and this will be available in the website of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and in the Interactive Voice System.

The `linear system' decided today will determine the rank of a student on the basis of a few parameters. If a number of students get, say, 195 marks each, the student who gets higher mark in mathematics will rank first while the student who gets higher mark in physics will get the second rank. If there is still a tie, then the rank will be given on the basis of the mark in chemistry, and if the tie persists, the dates of birth of the students will be considered and the elder student will get the higher rank. If there is still a tie, students will be given ranks on the basis of alphabetical list of names.
