Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar on Tuesday announced that to control vehicular pollution, electric buses would be introduced in Chennai and subsequently in other parts of the State.

The capital city would be a testing ground for phasing out diesel-powered buses, he said, as part of a series of announcements made in the Assembly.

A working committee to provide mobility solutions to the people would be started at the district level headed by the District Collector.

The Transport Department has planned to check the accident rate with the help of simulators, which will improve the driving skills of the drivers of the eight State Transport Corporations. The State would soon install GPS machines in the vehicles.
