Duraimurugan resigns as DMK treasurer

DMK treasurer Duraimurugan on Monday tendered his resignation in order to contest the post of general secretary of the party, which fell vacant following the recent death of veteran leader K. Anbazhagan.

Mr. Duraimurugan submitted his resignation to party president M.K. Stalin.

“It is necessary to resign from an existing post to contest party elections for top posts,” a source said.

In a press release, Mr. Stalin said the general council meeting of the party, slated for March 29 to elect the general secretary, will also elect the treasurer.

Party sources said DMK Parliamentary Party leader T.R. Baalu was likely to be elected its treasurer.

In view of the COVID-19 threat, Mr. Stalin has advised party units in areas situated along the borders with neighbouring States to cancel all meetings till March 31.
