Draft electoral rolls to be released next month

MADURAI, MARCH 24. The draft electoral rolls with current updates for Madurai district will be released by April-end, and would be displayed to the electorate, according to the Madurai Collector, D. Raajendiran.

The Collector, who undertook a surprise visit to Usilampatti to verify the door numbers in electoral rolls, said that the draft rolls containing information provided by the electorate to enumerators and supervisors during the intensive revision exercise would be printed along with their photos and put up for display. The voters could view this list and ascertain that particulars provided by them had been represented correctly.

The public could utilise Form 6 for inclusion of names and Form 7 for deletion of names from the voters' list, Mr. Raajendiran said and urged the eligible electorate to utilise the opportunity.

He said the door number verification had been completed in Melur, Sholavandan, Usilampatti, Sedapatti and Tirumangalam and other Assembly segments and currently the officials were engaged in the process of verifying the data and transposing the particulars.

The Collector personally verified the door numbers on the Post Office Street, Mariamman Temple Street etc. He later visited the Adi Dravida hostels in Usilampatti and inspected the facilities available for the inmates. Mr. Raajendiran was accompanied by the District Adi Dravida Welfare Officer, K. Sivan, the Personal Assistant to Collector (Nutrition) Periyasamy, the Revenue Divisional Officer, Dinesh Ponraj, and the Public Relations Officer, Siva Saravanan.

Meanwhile, the administration has declared 50 more village panchayats falling under the Vadipatti taluk in the district as child labour-free.
