DPI to hold anti-POTA meet

CHENNAI OCT. 5. The Dalit Panthers of India will organise a State-level seminar here on October 13 to protest the use of the Prevention of Terrorism Act by the State Government against Tamil nationalist leaders and to urge the Centre to withdraw it.

Talking to newsmen here yesterday, the general secretary, R. Tirumavalavan, said human rights activists and leaders of various organisations would participate.

The party would also organise demonstrations in front of all taluk offices on October 16 to demand a rollback of the PDS price increase.

Criticising Karnataka's "violation" of the Supreme Court ruling and the Cauvery River Authority directive on release of water, he wanted the Prime Minister to resign as the Centre's was unable to implement the orders. The party would file a case in the Madras High Court against the State Government for its "failure" to `take stringent action against those who forced the elected panchayat presidents of Pappatti and Keeripatti in Madurai district to resign.

The Government, he charged, had failed to create a congenial atmosphere for their continuance.
