DMK, MDMK candidates file papers for Saidapet

CHENNAI May 9. A total of 10 candidates today filed their nominations for the May 31 byelections in the Saidapet, Acharapakkam (SC) and Vaniyambadi Assembly constituencies. They included the DMK candidate, Ma. Subramanian, and P.Subramani of the MDMK for Saidapet and E.M. Hanifa of the DMK for Vaniyambadi.

The others who filed their papers were A. Durai-DMK (substitute candidate) for Saidapet, Vinodh Kannan, N. Sankaramoorthy, J. Ramesh, K. Pasupathy and A. Murugesan, all independents for Acharapakkam, and P. Aejaz Ahmad-DMK (substitute) at Vaniyambadi, according to an official release.

The independents who filed nominations for the Acharapakkam constituency were AIADMK supporters and were upset over the choice of Poovaragamurthy as party candidate.

Our Ramanathapuram Staff Reporter reports:

The Makkal Tamil Desam has decided to support the PMK candidate in Acharapakkam, said the party president, Pandiyan.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Pandiyan said the DMK had sought his party's support in Vaniyambadi and Saidapet.

The decision would be announced at the executive committee meeting to be held in Ambur on May 9.
