"Distribute temple lands to SCs"

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Puthiya Thamizhagam will launch a three-phase agitation in support of demands, including allotment of temple, Mutt and "adheenam" landto Scheduled Castes, and reservation for the community in private sector.

The party general council, which met here recently under the chairmanship of the president, K. Krishnasamy, in a resolution stated that if social justice was to be ensured, the Government should take over Mutt and temple lands and distribute them to landless SC agricultural workers. Similarly, panchami lands, which were given to landless members of the community during the colonial period, were now in the hands of non-SC landlords. The State should retrieve the land and hand them over to the original allottees.

Demanding early action by the State Government, the party would organise demonstrations in front of temples, mutts and "adheenams," in July, stage road and rail roko in August.
