Devotees told not to walk along rail tracks

The Southern Railway has urged pilgrims heading to Velankanni for the annual festival there to desist from walking on or alongside the railway tracks. A Southern Railway press release pointed out that this could lead to serious accidents endangering the life of passengers and pilgrims, apart from loss of railway property and affecting punctuality of trains. Such acts are also punishable under the Railways Act, 1989, the release said.
