Hindu Munnani activists demand building of Ram temple

Coimbatore: The 14th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition passed off peacefully in the city on Wednesday. The day was marked by demonstration by minority outfits demanding reconstruction of the mosque while the Hindu Munnani activists staged a demonstration in the evening demanding construction of Ram Temple.

Tamil Nadu Thowheeth Jama-ath (TNTJ) and Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) staged demonstrations at Gandhipuram and in front of Red Cross Society respectively. Several hundred demonstrators, including women and children, participated. The TMMK cadre staged a black flag demonstration.

They demanded reconstruction of the masjid at the disputed site in Ayodhya, release of Justice Liberhan Commission findings and action against those responsible for the demolition. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers. Similar demonstration took place at Pollachi, Tirupur and Mettuppalayam. In Coimbatore rural district, additional reinforcements were mobilised from the Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion at Palani, Namakkal and other neighbouring districts.

In Coimbatore Rural district, the police removed the demonstrators, since they gathered despite denial of permission.

In the evening, the Hindu Munnani activists staged a demonstration demanding construction of Ram Temple at the disputed site. Police removed the demonstrators at Coimbatore city, Pollachi, Tirupur and Mettuppalayam.
