Crucial MDMK meeting on December 29

VELLORE Dec. 24. The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) will take decisions on crucial political issues at a meeting of the administrative and political affairs committees and district secretaries in Chennai on December 29.

This was announced by L. Ganesan, chairman of the party's presidium, and M. Kannappan, Union Minister of State for Non-Conventional Energy Sources and party treasurer, after an hour-long meeting with the general secretary, Vaiko (a detenu under the Prevention of Terrorism Act) in the central jail here today.

Except saying they discussed the "current political situation" with Mr. Vaiko, both Mr. Ganesan and Mr. Kannappan parried all questions from presspersons whether the meeting would decide on continuance of the party in the National Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre in the wake of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) withdrawing from the alliance. They also parried a question whether the MDMK would toe the DMK line.

Gingee Ramachandran, Union Minister of State for Textiles and deputy general secretary, and Nazareth Durai, another deputy general secretary, accompanied the two during the meeting with Mr. Vaiko.
