Attacked

A functionary of the Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangangalin Peravai was allegedly attacked by a gang at his office in Perungudi here on Tuesday night. According to police sources, an armed gang barged into the office of Soundararajan (48), south Chennai district president of the Peravai, at Tirumalai Nagar and attacked him with knives. His car driver, Siva Ganesh, who tried to intervene was also assaulted.

Soundarajan was admitted to a private hospital, where his condition was said to be stable. Investigators were perusing footage recorded by surveillance cameras installed in the office.



Credit card missing



A Chinese national has lodged a complaint with Saidapet police that his credit card is missing. Hong Homan (54) of China said in his complaint that he realised that his card missing after playing golf in a ground in the area. Someone had misused the card by drawing Rs.19,000 from it.

Held on murder charge

The Egmore police on Tuesday arrested Justin (40) of Kannagi Nagar on charge of murdering his brother-in-law, Sekhar (58). Police said Justin had attacked Sekhar while at work in a chicken centre in Egmore during the early hours on August 5. The victim suffered grievous injuries and was admitted to the Government General Hospital, where he died on Tuesday evening.

Five held

Two men were arrested and three others surrendered in connection with the murder of a 45-year-old woman at her house in Ganapathipuram on Tuesday night.

Police said Subash, Padmanabhan and Velu Prabhakaran, distant relatives of the woman, surrendered. Sukumar and Suresh Kumar, nephews of the victim, Lakshmi, were arrested.

Police said Lakshmi and the five men had problems over ownership of a land belonging to the family for a long time. The matter was pending at the District Munsiff court in Tambaram.
