SALEM: The Salem City Police on Monday arrested an AIADMK councillor (Ward 3) of Salem Corporation and seven others for reportedly entering into a scuffle with another group of AIADMK men during the death anniversary of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran in Reddiyur here on Sunday.

The police said that councillor A.K.S. Balu and his supporters picked a quarrel with one Ezhumalai and a few other AIADMK party functionaries while garlanding the portrait of MGR. The quarrel later led to a scuffle in which a few of Ezhumalai's supporters suffered injuries. Based on a compliant, the police arrested the councillor and seven others.

Recovered

The police recovered two stolen motorcycles and arrested two persons in Namakkal on Sunday. The police said that the duo were found standing suspiciously on Namakkal - Tiruchi road. On inquiry, it was found that Balakrishnan (35) and Manikandan (19) had stolen two motorcycles. The police arrested them and recovered the vehicles.
