Corporation unveils playground with multiple facilities

Four parks were inaugurated in different localities on Friday

Chennai: Sports enthusiasts have a brand-new facility in the form of a Chennai Corporation playground with tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, a skating rink and walkers' lane in Shenoy Nagar. The ground, built at a cost of Rs. 53.49 lakh, was opened on Friday. Electricity Minister N. Arcot Veerasamy and Minister for Local Administration M. K. Stalin were chief guests at the inaugural function, which included a skating performance by students on the new rink. The figure skating accompanied by music won applause from the Ministers. The Corporation will make a schedule for practice sessions for different games on the ground. Instructors will be appointed to coach students, said Commissioner M. P. Vijayakumar. Four parks were inaugurated on the same day in different localities. Information Minister Parithi Elamvazhuthi inaugurated the Sundararao park, built at a cost of Rs. 12 lakh, on Rukmini Lakshmipathy Salai. Two water fountains are an added attraction in the park. The Nungambakkam Canal Park off Haddows Road, a park on the fourth lane off Nungambakkam High Road and another behind the Spencer Plaza complex were opened. A set of new classrooms added to the Corporation Primary School in Kamdar Nagar and a noon meal centre in Muthiah Street were also opened.
